The department of Zoology, “Kakaraparti Bhavanarayana College”, had its beginning with pomp and fanfare. When the college was inaugurated on November 6 th 1965 by Sri. K. Brahmananda Reddy, the then honorable Chief Minister of AP, Zoology department was one of the departments which was started with an experienced and celebrated teacher like Sri. P. Prabhakara Rao, a veteran teacher in Zoology. Under his able guidance, the department rose to Himalayan heights. It grew leaps and bounds with two laboratories catering to the needs of students which resulted in producing several Doctors and Scientists. Its museum is stupendous and spectacular with its limitless pieces. It has the library flooded with well-known and popular editions. Number of photos of the eminent scientists are hung on the walls which are very impressive and inspiring. It has sophisticated equipment.The department is well furnished. Its built up area is 4023 sq. ft. It has a store room and staff room. It is self- sufficient with its latest laboratory equipment.

The laboratory of the department is really unique. Its environment is superb. It has around 121 bio – visual charts. It has 27 compound microscopes and 20 dissection microscopes.

The labs are furnished with 12 work tables, 5 museum cases, 2 show cases, 5 wooden racks, 4 staff tables, 12 chairs, 40 stools, 4 chart racks, 115 dissection trays and 40 dissection boards.

• Extension lectures by eminent personalities are to be held off and on. Interactive sessions are arranged very often.
• Job oriented courses like Certificate Course in Food & Nutrition (CFN) and Diploma in Health & Nutrition related to the department are introduced for providing jobs to the jobless.
